Pharaohe Monch is making sure we don’t overlook his upcoming album by dropping an excellent short film for his “Clap” single. It tells the story of a cop haunted by a horrible mistake committed on duty. Unlike a lot of these “extended” videos, Monch does an excellent job of using symbolism to tie in the visuals with the actual song. The end is open to interpretation and I won’t spoil it here. I will say that I think it says a lot about what people should be doing to police their own communities and about holding themselves and the police force accountable for their actions.
The director is Terence Nance and stars Gbenga Akinnagbe (The Wire), Kim Howard and Josiah Small. The original score is composed by Lion’s Share Music Group.
You can pre-order W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) here through iTunes. The album drops on March 22.
