“I’m living in a world where my truth can be my lynching…”
Pusha T is keeping the feinds supplied with yet another track off his anticipated Fear of God mixtape. When you listen to songs like this, it’s another reminder why you can’t classify Pusha or even his brother Malice as just “coke rappers.” They have their shit-talking tracks, but they’re also able to get at the human element behind the street lifestyle. “Cook It Down” alludes to the sorrow that comes with the fallout of long jail sentences, and the emotional/spiritual unrest one can endure from dealing death. You get all of that here, and there’s a hint of the surreal when Pusha juxtaposes his growing fame under G.O.O.D. Music by using the same hustler grind that is so essential in the drug world.
The glaring downside to this song is the autotune-tinged chorus. Other than that, Fear of God is still sounding good thus far.
