Last night (November 7), Manny Pacquiao received an extensive segment for 60 Minutes.
The interview centered on the issue that will define the rest of Manny Pacquiao’s time in boxing; will his work as a politician destroy his boxing career?
60 Minutes correspondent Bob Simon gives good background on Pacquiao’s humble beginnings in the Philippine slums, Freddie Roach’s first impressions, the De La Hoya beatdown, and Pacquiao’s current training focus.
Not much that’s groundbreaking for us boxing junkies who stay updated every day. But it’s a great look to see Pacquiao and boxing getting this type of positive exposure. About the training woes, keep in mind this was probably filmed last month when Pacquiao was still Philippines. Some interesting points below to look out for:
– Manny, with a sly grin, lists himself as the greatest boxer of all time
– Bob Arum explains why he feels Pacquiao is a greater fighter than Muhammad Ali
– Freddie Roach has had “anxiety attacks” over Pacquiao’s bad training days
