I thought the fight was won. But he got his second wind.
Robeisy Ramirez
Phoenix, AZ — Last December, Robeisy Ramirez was on the wrong end of arguably 2023’s best fight. Ramirez floored his opponent Rafael Espinoza mid-way only to find himself overwhelmed and dropped late to punctuate a majority decision defeat. Close to a full year later, Ramirez finally has his chance to avenge the loss and become a two-time WBO featherweight champion
The rematch will be the co-feature to another anticipated brutal return bout — Oscar Valdez seeking revenge and the WBO super featherweight crown against Emanuel Navarrete.
Last June, Ramirez bounced back from the Espinoza setback with a seventh-round stoppage over Brandon Leon Benitez. Despite the undefeated Espinoza being a nightmare physical matchup at 6’1 to Ramirez’s 5’6, the latter never considered targeting other titleholders.
“Our first fight was extremely close, action-packed, and regarded by many as ‘Fight of the Year,’” Ramirez said. “Since the cards were read, my team and I have been asking for the rematch. On December 7, I’m coming to erase any doubts. I will reclaim my title.”
“December 7 is going to be a special night in Phoenix, as we have two 50/50 rematches of incredible fights,” added card promoter and Top Rank chairman Arum. “Navarrete and Valdez are two of the greatest Mexican warriors the sport has seen, and I expect another toe-to-toe battle.
“I thought the first Espinoza-Ramirez fight was the 2023 Fight of the Year, and I expect the 13th round to pick up where the dramatic 12th left off.”
Promoted by Top Rank, tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com. Navarrete-Valdez II and Espinoza-Ramirez II will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.
