Jarrett Hurd and Jeison Rosario fight was billed as a crossroads battle to determine which battle-worn fighter had enough left to continue on. But instead of a conclusive verdict, the two former unified champions battled to a split draw leading to more questions on their futures.
Hurd started fast controlling his opponent with the jab and scoring well with left hooks and counter rights when Rosario plodded inside. Hurd’s best round came in the third when he punctuated the stanza with a left hook downstairs and a chopping right.
Over the second half, Rosario took advantage of Hurd’s leaky defense and low punch output with overhand rights and superior body shots.
Scores for the contest were 96-94 Hurd, 96-94 Rosario and 95-95. Both fighters have expressed openness to a rematch.
