Fresh off winning ESPN’s 2023 Prospect of the Year, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington returns this Friday (February 16) against Bernard Angelo Torres at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater.
Carrington made waves earlier this year for his bold call for a featherweight showdown against undefeated Pound 4 Pound star Naoya Inoue. Although Carrington has yet to reach contender status, he believes his last win, a dominant second-round TKO over Jason Sanchez, has elevated the public’s perception of his championship ceiling.
Most of my interviews talking about Inoue were before my last fight,” Carrington said. “And then they saw what I just did and it’s like ‘oh, this guy can crack a punch.’ To those people who are just now watching me and think I can just crack a punch — no, y’all are gonna see much more of Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington. You’ll see I have way more in my arsenal than that.
To be honest, no one else has seen what’s in my arsenal. I’ve done it on purpose — I’ve purposely fought a certain way to not dig deep in my bag yet. But when I decide to turn it on, I’m gonna turn it on. I might tease y’all with something new this fight. I was gonna do it my last fight, but it didn’t last that long.

Carrington will open Friday’s ESPN triple-header. In the main event, O’Shaquie Foster defends his junior lightweight title against Abraham Nova. In a 10-round junior lightweight co-feature, Andres Cortes takes over Bryan Chevalier. The broadcast opens at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
