Who says regional sounds are extinct in Hip-Hop?

Who says regional sounds are extinct in Hip-Hop? There is no way you can listen to Kendrick’s latest single and not feel like you’ve been time-wrapped to a 90s DJ Quik or Daz studio session. With the title, you’re automatically going to expect a track in the vein of “The Blacker the Berry.” Once your ears adjust to the house-party funk production, you’ll have a greater appreciation for this track. K-dot also has a few nice lyrical nods to the past, like when he alludes to James Brown’s “The Big Payback” (“I can dig rappin’…”)

To Pimp a Butterfly hits stores March 23.
