Lil Wayne has announced his intention to leave Cash Money Records, citing irreconcilable differences over the handling of his forthcoming Carter V album.
In a series of Tweets, Wayne claimed he is being held “prisoner” due to label heads Bryan “Baby” and Ronald “Slim” Williams refusing to release the album. Furthermore, Wayne apologized to his family and fans for the situation.
You can read Tweets below in addition to a final humorous one from Pusha T (Writer’s Note: If you’re too young to remember the mid-90s, click this video to get the joke).
All of sudden, those accusations from Tyga a few months back and producers over the years about Cash Money robbing people have a lot more validity. When the company’s flagship bearer can get treated like this, it makes you wonder how bad it was for guys like Mannie Fresh and Bangladesh. And don’t forget, EMI settled a lawsuit with Cash Money Records over unpaid royalties back in 2012.
More on this story as it develops. At press time, no official word from Cash Money.
