One of the challenges Lupe Fiasco has endured in recent years is balancing the esoteric with the pop. His new track with Nikkie Jean, “Haile Selassie,” maintains a smooth tightrope act with strong lyrical content on social, political and spiritual imagery. Jean’s inviting chorus washes all the heavy content down nicely. Production-wise, this is something you coud hear Kendrick Lamar over. The difference here is that Lupe keeps his vocals under control and not at odds with the beat.
Sounds like Lupe will be focused on his Lost In The Atlantic Ocean project.
