MOSCOW, Russia — Former cruiserweight titlist Denis Lebedev is back in the win column with a second-round KO over Pawel Kolodziej last night at the Dynamo Palace of Sports.
The southpaw Lebedev fought patiently and timed a perfect counter left on the retreating Kolodziej. The shot dropped Kolodziej in the second forced the referee to halt the bout.
Lebedev is coming off a brutal Fight of the Year contender from May 2013 against Guillermo Jones. That bout saw Lebedev battle through grotesque swelling on his right eye before being stopped in the 11th. Jones’s win was later called into question when he tested positive for the banned substance Furosemide. A rematch this year was called off after Jones again tested positive.
Lebedev’s win is his second defense of the WBA World cruiserweight title.
