Ruslan Provodnikov invited trainer Freddie Roach and promoter Artie Pelullo to Russia to begin brainstorming the former WBO titlist’s comeback fight, and potentially a rematch with new WBO title-holder Chris Algieri.
The trio was joined by Provodnikov’s manager Vadim Kornilov. At press time, the tentative plan is for Provodnikov’s comeback bout to take place in Russia before the end of 2014.
“The Siberian Rocky” also plans to pursue a rematch with Algieri, who faces Manny Pacquiao on November 22.

Good to see Provodnikov trying to get in another fight. The best way to shake off a loss is with the sweet taste of victory. An Algieri rematch is highly dependent on how the current champ looks in his bout against Pacquiao. In recent statements, Algieri has brushed off thoughts of another tangle with Provodnikov. But if Manny thrashes him, I expect Algieri to do a 180.
If Algieri wins, Provodnikov might as well forget about a rematch. Algieri’s ledger will then become occupied with a Pacquiao return bout, and other Top Rank names like Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.
