Left Hook Caution? Garcia Not Fazed by Matthysse: “I’ve taken big shots before…”

There’s not many expecting Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse’s anticipated unification matchup to go the distance. But if you could poll most observers on how the fight will conclude, it’d likely involve a scenario with someone hitting the canvas courtesy of a left hook.

Although Garcia got a first hand look at ringside several months ago when Matthysse crumpled Lamont Peterson during a left hook exchange, the Philly-based WBC and WBA junior welterweight titlist claimed on a recent conference call he is not fearful trading shots.

We’ll have to see [what happens when we exchange]. I’ve taken big shots before. I’ve fought big punchers. Peterson was out of position [when Matthysse dropped him]. I’ll make adjustments as needed. In my heart I know I’m the best. I hold the titles and will show it September 14.

All due respect to the main event that is Mayweather-Canelo, the biggest thing I’m anticipating that night is the first  left hook exchange from Garcia and Matthysse. Yes, Matthysse’s recent left that destroyed Peterson is more fresh in our minds, but Garcia is no slouch in that department either. His left hook has earned him knockdowns in each of his last four fights (three of them being stoppages). Expect this one to boil down to who has the better chin.
