In the wake of Kendrick Lamar’s atomic bomb of a verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” it’s going to tough for any rapper to get some traction with their verses this week. If anyone could do it, you’d think it’d be Lupe Fiasco, who spent a considerable amount of time yesterday on Twitter detailing how unimpressed he was with Kendrick’s verse. That makes even more of surprising that the Chi-town lyricist would drop a joint like this. The concept is a flip of the dope game motif, complete with a generic trap beat, having Lupe bar by bar revealing that his true devotion isn’t to the streets, but to God. Not a bad track when viewed objectively, but well below the vintage Lupe we’ve come to expect.
