Eternia

Two years might as well be a lifetime in Hip-Hop, and it appears Eternia has put that sabbatical period to good use. Her return offers a verse which is at times existential critique and self-determination manifesto. At other points, she takes on the role of lyrical Noah, questioning the purpose of God and the meaning, if any, behind the trials and tribulations placed in her life. The stark, desolate visual surroundings chosen by director Alex Narvaez add to the potency of Eternia’s one-woman monologue. However, the piece does ends on a very hopeful note.

Billed as a tribute to Kendrick Lamar’s “Hii Power,” let’s hope Ms. Eternia isn’t one and done this year and blesses us with some more standout verses (and visuals) over the last half of 2013.
