Prediction: Even at 32 years old and with 30 fights on his ledger, this bouts represents Olusegun Ajose’s first step up to the elite level. Just last year, he was still competing in six round fights. Being a speedy southpaw will help significantly as it took Matthysse awhile to catch up to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander. However, as seen in his last fight with Humberto Soto, Matthysse has got much better at cutting off the ring, battering the body early and forcing exchanges that benefit his power edge. Ajose, although not a big puncher, at times likes to fight like one by standing his ground inside and throwing big hooks. From his prefight talk, Ajose badly wants to make a statement and this is where he’ll likely run in trouble by lingering too long inside and getting caught. Ajose won’t get ran over, but by the middle rounds the writing will be on the wall and Matthysse closes the show with a late stoppage.
