Jquante Crews, one of three men involved in the July 2009 robbery and shooting death of former undisputed welterweight champion Vernon Forrest, has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
The verdict was made on Monday (April 2) by a jury in Fulton County, Georgia. An Atlanta judge decreed that Crews, 28, will not be eligible for parole.
Forrest was robbed at gunpoint by DeMario Ware, 22, outside of a gas station in southwest Atlanta. Forrest, who was armed and with his 11-year-old godson, pursued the fleeing Ware on foot and engaged in a brief firefight. Upon returning to his vehicle, Forrest was ambushed and shot seven times in the back by Charmon Sinkfield. Prosecutors state the two men then fled in a red Pontiac driven by Crews.
Although neither Crews nor Ware shot Forrest, both have received life sentences per Georgia’s “party-to-a-crime” laws. Sinkfield, whose case has not yet gone to trial, will be facing the death penalty.
Forrest was in the midst a boxing comeback at the time of his death. In his last fight, Forrest avenged an earlier loss to Sergio Mora to win the WBC junior middleweight title. He was 38 years old.

RIP Starrr! Glad the scum is in prison
RIP.
