“I never felt power like that.” – Aaron Jaco

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — After nearly a year of inactivity, former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik returned to the ring last night (March 31) with an efficient second round TKO over Aaron Jaco.
Pavlik landed the first big shot of the bout via a neck-snapping left jab. Known for having a powerful right hand, Pavlik surprised his opponent by focusing solid left hooks to the body. The back-pedaling Jaco took a knee after being stunned by a short left hook upstairs. Jaco beat the count and took several more left hands to close the round.
Jaco quickly found himself back on the canvas in the second via a counter left hook over his jab. The overmatched Jaco stumbled to his feet but informed the referee that he didn’t want to continue.
“Game plans are great until you get punched,” Jaco admitted. “I never felt power like that.”
“I was calm, relaxed, had good energy, [and] bounce,” said Pavlik. “Everything was working.”
The knockout is Pavlik’s first since a fifth round stoppage of Miguel Angel Espino in December 2009.
