BROOKLYN, NY — Zab Judah’s latest comeback has been launched after an efficient ninth round TKO against a completely overmatched Vernon Paris at the Aviator Sports Complex.
Judah took control from the beginning and mentally broke Paris from the opening rounds. Judah caught Paris with hard straight lefts and was close to an early stoppage in the second round. By the third, Paris was so frozen by Judah’s offense that he covered up and turned away whenever Judah fired off straight lefts.
Not known for inside fighting, Judah was comfortable trading shots with Paris in the pocket. Several head-jarring uppercuts forced Paris to hold on in the fifth. Judah added digging body shots in the sixth and went back to hard jabs in the seventh and eighth rounds.
The inevitable end came in the ninth when Judah came out with a big straight leftgthat hurt an already cornered Paris. Judah pounced with sustained blistering hooks to force the early stoppage.
The technical knockout puts Judah back in the win column after an abysmal last outing against Amir Khan and the makes him the #1 contender for Lamont Peterson’s IBF title.
