“Risk-takers get a bigger piece of the pie…”
If you want a glimpse of Oddisee’s devotion to his adopted craft of Hip-Hop music, his new track “Slow It Down” is a great starting point. Orchestral samples sometimes can overpower an emcee’s voice, but here the arrangements are spaced out enough for Oddisee’s vocals to work freely. The flow is conversational as he details the need for being a calculated risk-taker and tireless worker in pursuit of his dreams. That mindset illuminates the song’s second half, where he details the futility of a lover’s challenge to make him chose between her and his passion for music.
Oddisee’s new album Self Sacrifice drops “officially” on March 27, but is available now via iTunes. The LP features appearances from O.C., Black Milk, Georgia Ann Muldrow, Kev Brown, Roc Marciano and more.
