Don Cornelius, creator of the iconic Soul Train series, was found dead today in his Los Angeles area home of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 75 years old.
Police arrived at Cornelius’ home at 4 a.m. this morning. At press time, investigators suspect no foul play. The news of the death being a suicide was leaked via several confidential sources.
Running for over 30 years and becoming the longest-running nationally syndicated show in TV history, Soul Train was responsible for giving many artists from R&B, soul and later Hip-Hop their first mainstream platforms. Cornelius would retire from hosting in 1993. The show ended its run in 2006.
At the time of his death, Cornelius was planning a Soul Train movie project.
