Having a child is a life-altering experience. The question this writer has had over the last few months is how raising a daughter would affect Jay-Z’s lyrical content. Our first indication came earlier today with “Glory,” which finds Jay in an expected introspective mood when delving into his family history. In a surprise revelation from the very private man, Jay-Z briefly talks about a past Beyonce miscarriage and alludes to further difficulty and fears with Blue Ivy’s pending birth.
For over a decade, Jay-Z’s career has been a tightrope act of balancing his personal growth while being the face of a culture whose mainstream component too often expects hallow, materialistic content. Kingdom Come was Jay’s last big attempt to “mature” his content, and he was met with a big backlash which scared him back into the comfortable confines of LPs like American Gangster. But now with Blue Ivy, he has a living, breathing miracle of life to inspire him daily to be better. Makes you wonder what Watch the Throne would have sounded like if Blue Ivy had made her debut a few months before that project dropped.
JAY-Z X PHARRELL X BLUE IVY (B.I.C.) “GLORY”

Truth is, Blue Ivy is going to change all of our lives in that, she will influence the music of the two greatest artists of our culture. I’m excited about the future.
