BOLTON, ENGLAND — Before Amir Khan gets a chance to regain his junior welterweight titles in the ring, the former champion has filed an appeal to overturn his split decision loss to Lamont Peterson last Saturday (December 10).
Fighting in Peterson’s hometown of Washington D.C., Khan was docked two crucial points by referee Joseph Cooper for pushing in the seventh and 12th round. The deductions, coupled with the challenger’s game plan of constant pressure and heavy body-punching, would give Peterson a close victory by scores of 113-112 twice and 111-114.
Khan, who has called the fight a robbery and vowed never to fight in Washington D.C. again, expects to receive an answer on his appeal next week.
“We have appealed. In the next 7-10 days we should find out and it could be overturned,” Khan explained to the BBC. “I was treated unfairly during the fight. Lamont Peterson’s coach even said to me that he knows how it feels to be robbed.”
“The referee was from Washington so he was always going to favour the home fighter. He walks the streets of D.C. so if he was fair and took points off Peterson he’d be hated in Washington… My titles were snatched off me unfairly. I don’t think he’ll be refereeing a big fight again.”
Yesterday, Khan’s promoter Golden Boy was successful in reversing stable-mate Bernard Hopkins’ October TKO loss to Chad Dawson to a No Contest.
If the appeal is granted, Khan has confirmed that he will still move forward with a Peterson rematch.

What A sore loser smh… He needs to admit He was beaten fair and square and take note that in his mistakes in order to move on and improve (like the prescot fight)
I started liking him and giving him props after the Maidana fight, now the way He handled defeat and not being humble is reminding Me what A dickhead He is…
You lost Amir, get over it
