HOUSTON, TEXAS — Defending WBC middleweight titlist Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Peter Manfredo both made weight easily for tonight’s HBO-televised bout. Chavez came in at 159 3/4 pounds, while challenger Manfedo came in at 159.5 pounds. On the undercard, Joshua Clottey (156 lbs.) will make his middleweight debut against Calvin Greene (156.5 lbs.). The untelevised undercard will be shown on www.toprank.tv. The maincard airs tonight at 10:30 PM ET.
Prediction – Manfredo will be able to last the distance, but Chavez should be strong enough to bully Manfredo to close but clear decision win. Clottey, even at middleweight and a year plus layoff, should have enough left to walk down and KO Greene, whose suffered knockouts in his last two bouts against Sergio Mora and Alfonso Gomez.
