With the success of younger emcees like Drake, it’s a good a time as any for LL Cool J to launch a comeback in the rap game. But as a rapper over 40, can LL bring the mature perspective on love that’s largely missing from the game? Based on this Ne-Yo assisted track “No More,” the short answer would be “possibly.” Lyrically, LL is good in detailing a narrative of passion disintegrating from a relationship. Ne-Yo upholds his end; at this stage, the multi-talented singer can knock out features like this in his sleep. The weak point is Rico Love and Jim Jonsin’s production, punctuated by a repetitive guitar loop.
No word yet on when to expect a new LL album.
