Juan Manuel Marquez and his brother Rafael are boxing champions that followed the fistic legacy of their father. However, Juan will not be encouraging his sons to become the third generation of boxers in the Marquez family. In this third blog write-up ahead of his Manny Pacquiao rubbermatch next Saturday (November 12), Marquez gives brief insight into his family’s mindset on his profession.
As a father I would not like my sons to be boxers, but my brother (Rafael) and I became boxers because my father was a boxer and he loved the sport so much, so if my sons want to be boxers I will support them in any way I can.
My kids rarely go to my fights but they do watch them on TV and they know that there is some risk involved in what I do and they know that cuts and bruises are part to the job.
Boxing was always about being the best that we could be and that’s just the way we were raised to be become the best and from the start of our career we always strived to be the best boxers possible.
