BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO — Juan Manuel Lopez made a successful comeback in his native Puerto Rico with a decisive second round KO over Mike Oliver. The fight began with an early statement from Oliver, who opened a mouse under Lopez’s right eye with a jarring right hook followed by a flurry against the ropes. Lopez remained composed and finished the round by dropping Oliver twice with short counters — the first off a right jab, and a second, harder knockdown off a straight left. Lopez had lost respect for Oliver’s power by the second round and pressured him with hooks. A succession of uppercuts helped push Oliver to the ropes, and Lopez ended the bout with a right hook that brought Oliver to a knee. Lopez improves his record to 31-1 (28 KOs).
