WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno has signed an exclusive multi-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions.
Moreno has held the WBA title for the last three years, making eight defenses. Earlier this year, Moreno was in negotiations for the biggest bout of a career, a unification showdown with WBC and WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire. Although the bout fell through due to Donaire’s contract issues, Golden Boy aims to make Moreno a force in the division.
“Anselmo Moreno is one of the most underrated boxers out there today and we’re going to make sure he gets the fights and the recognition he deserves in the coming years,” promised Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. “To remain a champion as long as he has is an amazing feat these days. Now we’re to get him into the mega-fights that will let him show his talent in front of fight fans around the world.”
The 26-year-old Chemito has only suffered one loss, a four round split decision, and a draw the first year of his career in 2002. Since moving to bantamweight in 2006, Moreno has become one the division’s premier fighters with wins over previously undefeated fighters Volodymyr Sydorenko and Nehomar Cermeno. In June, he scored his first knockout in two years via an eighth round stoppage over former titlist Lorenzo Parra. Moreno plans to continue these type of dominant performances as he inevitably steps up class against the other bantamweight champions.
“I’m honored to be part of the Golden Boy Promotions team, with so many great fighters and champions,” Moreno said. “I’m going to fight my heart out every time I’m in the ring and I’m going to give the fans the fights they want to see.”
At press time, Anselmo Moreno’s next opponent has not been decided.
