“The judges wanted to see a fight…”
With outrage and disbelief still heavy from last night’s atrocious decision win for Paul Williams over Erislandy Lara, the former’s promoter, Goossen Tutor, conducted this post-fight dressing interview in a vain attempt to spin the travesty in the Punisher’s direction. The spin begins almost immediately with the interviewer declaring that “pressure pressure pressure wins that fight.” NO. What wins a fight (and rounds) are effective aggression, clean, effective punching, defense and ring generalship. This isn’t amateur boxing where volume overrides the quality of punches. And in no way can anyone with eyes declare Paul Williams exceeded Erislandy Lara in those categories in the seven rounds needed for him to win the fight.
