Judah vs. Marquez On Tap for the Summer

"Sure Zab, let's hope it happens," Marquez responded. "Great champion, all our respect for you."

Zab Judah and lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez are finalizing talks for a junior welterweight matchup this summer.

Judah, who’s coming off an impressive KO of Kaizer Mabuza on March 5, excitedly posted the news to his twitter account late last night.

“Well all the talk is over; it’s on Judah vs. Marquez this summer!” Zab tweeted. “For the 140 pound IBF championship of the world. 4 ya info Judah the champ and it ain’t going nowhere. Thank you, Jesus!”

Marquez confirmed the talks weren’t complete yet via his own Twitter page.

“Sure Zab, let’s hope it happens,” Marquez responded. “Great champion, all our respect for you.”

Golden Boy met with Marquez this week in hopes of extending their contract together. There have been rumors of Marquez signing with Bob Arum’s Top Rank in order to pursue a rubbermatch with longtime rival Manny Pacquiao.

Should Marquez defeat Judah, he would become the first Mexican to win titles in four different weight classes.

At press time, Golden Boy representatives could not be reached for comment regarding the potential fight.

I like this fight, very intriguing. Zab has to be the favorite since Marquez looked horrible in his only outing above lightweight against Floyd Mayweather. Granted, he was facing Mayweather, but I think Zab’s speed and length will cause Marquez big problems. It’ll come down to if Marquez has enough power to hurt Judah with his famed combinations.
