A Tribe Called Quest Expose Documentary Problems

Weeks and months after pulled trailers and Phife's appearance with Rappaport at the Sundance Film Festival, the group breaks their silence with an disturbing email allegedly from Rappaport that was sent to them by accident.

“Industry rule #4080…”

Since the beginning, Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad have appeared lukewarm about supporting the highly-anticipated Tribe Called Quest documentary they helped create with actor Micheal Rappaport. Until now, we never really knew why. Weeks and months after pulled trailers and Phife’s appearance with Rappaport at the Sundance Film Festival, the group breaks their silence with an disturbing email allegedly from Rappaport that was sent to them by accident.

According to the email, Rappaport conspired to push them out as executive producers and “fuck them out of everything else.” Of course, Tribe probably got flashbacks on the the music industry and problems they had with labels over the years.

Context is important in any situation We have no idea what interactions preceded or followed this email. Still, I understand whole-heartedly why Tribe would have issues working with someone who has given his personal team the directive to financially phase them out of their own life story.

Balls in your court, Michael.
