Sturm Dominates Hearns, Retains with 7th Round TKO

WBA middleweight titlist Felix Sturm has retained his crown with an easy seventh round stoppage against a woefully overmatched Ronald Hearns.

With his father Tommy “The Hitman” Hearns in attendance, Ronald struggled from the outset with Sturm’s accurate left hand jabbing. The punch repeatedly snapped Hearns’ head back in every round. By the sixth, Hearns’ left eye was swelling shut from the damage. With a tight guard, Sturm spent most of the fight walking down his opponent. When close, he unleashed short right hooks.

After cornering Hearns in the seventh, Sturm scored with a looping right hook around Hearns’ guard. The punch froze him long enough for Sturm to cock back with another, but this time much harder, right hook. Out on his feet, Hearns doubled over into the waiting arms of the referee.

The win raises Felix Sturm’s record to 35-2-1 with 15 KOs. Tonight was the ninth defense of his title, which he won back in 2007.

Ronald Hearns suffers his second defeat, snapping a five fight win streak and falling to 26-2 with 20 KOs.

    1. It’s crazy how one bout can make such a difference in your career. Imagine if he would’ve got the decision in that fight. History would be completely different. I don’t think he’s fought in the U.S. since lol
