Manny Pacquiao is in Washington D.C. today meeting with Congressional members as a part of his promotional tour for the May 7 Shane Mosley fight.
Pacquiao reunited with former boxer and political ally Harry Ried, Senate Majority Leader (D) for Congress. Pacquiao was a supporter of Reid’s re-election campaign last November in Las Vegas.
Reid feels Pacquiao is a kindred spirit, and believes the fighter’s split duties between politics and boxing actually strengthens him in each area.
“He and I come from opposite sides of the globe. But in our hearts, we come from the same place,” Reid told the Las Vegas Sun. “He knows it’s not enough just to fight for yourself … or to be a world champion many times over. You have to be a champion for others.”
At press time, Pacquaio and wife Jinkee are expected to have a private lunch this afternoon with President Obama and First Lady Michelle.
