Tupac Film to Begin Shooting By Summer

Originally, the film was set to begin filming last September with Training Day director Antwan Fiqua at the helm. The biggest challenge for the company and Afeni Shakur remains deciding the film's principal cast.

A biopic on the late Tupac Shakur is expected to begin filming in either the spring or early summer.

The news was confirmed in a statement from Morgan Creek Productions, who are creating the story with the slain rapper’s mother Afeni Shakur handling executive producer duties. The company is promising an extensive retrospect on Tupac’s life with a strong emphasis on the East-West Coast rivalry that consumed his final years.

“The film chronicles the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur, including his rise to superstardom as a hip hop artist and actor, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial time at Death Row Records, where he was steeped in the East Coast/West Coast rap war,” Morgan Creek verified in a press release.

Originally, the film was set to begin filming last September with Training Day director Antwan Fiqua at the helm. The biggest challenge for the company and Afeni Shakur remains deciding the film’s principal cast. She remains confident that Morgan Creek will be successful in its vows to present a film that displays the full spectrum of her son’s life and legacy despite the looming deadline.

“I am confident that Morgan Creek will stay true to the common goal we share of depicting Tupac’s life in a way that will allow the world to see the authenticity of his artistry, his hopes, and his life goals,” she stated.

At press time, a projected release date has not been confirmed.
