Shane Mosley is on the short list of opponents to face Manny Pacquiao in early 2011.
For the past week, Mosley’s promotional future has been the source of much speculation. Mosley, who’s been a partner and fighter under Golden Boy for several years, was said to be dissatisfied with having to face Sergio Mora in September.
Yesterday, Mosley let his Twitter followers know that he would be meeting today with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum to iron out details on a superfight with Manny Pacquiao. According to Shane, the only big topic of discussion will be the financial figures.
“Alright guys, I have to catch a plane tomorrow to go talk to Bob Arum about that fight with Pac,” Mosley tweeted. “I know we just have to talk money now.”
Mosley has not verified if he’s completely severed ties with Golden Boy. However, the former welterweight champion did say that he has always been free to work with other promotions.
“I have been a promotional free agent for two years,” he said.
After shocking the boxing world with a dominating knockout victory over Antonio Margarito in January 2009, Mosley was unable to entice either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Paccquiao into the ring. At the time, Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach said the fight would only happen if Mosley could make a catchweight slightly over the junior welterweight limit (140 pounds).
Manny Pacquiao is coming off a historic decision win last week over Antonio Margarito, which gave him a title in his eighth weight class. Shane Mosley is coming off a controversial draw with Sergio Mora in September.

Shane Mosley is doing what any fighter would do, and that’s look for the biggest fight available. He’s already fought Mayweather; why not go for Pacquiao? But as a fan, it’s so frustrating to see Manny and Floyd fight everyone but each other.
If this fight were to happen, it would be the fourth mutual opponent they’ve faced, following De La Hoya, Hatton, and Marquez. Arum seems to be moving forward with this potential fight much more than trying to get the Mayweather contest. It makes me wonder if he’s already attempted to talk to Floyd and didn’t get a response.
Would this be a hard sell considering how Mosley looked in his last two fights? Somewhat. They’ll be some rumblings of Mosley not deserving it. But as long as Mayweather doesn’t appear willing to make the Pacquiao fight, Top Rank can easily argue that Shane is the next big fighter willing to step up. And if Pacquiao knocks out Mosley, that’s another mutual Mayweather opponent Arum can boast about doing better against.
What do you think? Could you accept a Pacquiao-Mosley bout if the Mayweather superfight can’t be made?

No I would not accept this. Why is it that all of a sudden now there’s interest on top ranks side to make a super fight with mosley, When mosley was willing to meet every demand put forth by pacquiao’s team in 2009 . And even more now that it is being rumored that mosley might sign with top rank. I will tell you why , mosley is gonna do like the previous 3 top rank fighters who fought manny , drain himself to go to a weight he can’t make in good health. Go into the fight dehydrated like margarito and cotto and delahoya and end up getting destroyed by manny. So then what will everyone say look what manny did to mosley , and floyd could not even knock him out. That’s what its all about. Make manny beat mosley in a more devastating way than floyd did, which will then make manny seem like the more superior fighter and a$most guarantee top rank to get all there demands met in a super fight.
