Showtime’s Bantamweight Tournament Preview

Showtime has just released a trailer for their upcoming bantamweight tournament on December 11. Showtime has just released a trailer for their upcoming bantamweight tournament on December 11. Learning from the headache their 168 pound Super Six has turned into, the network is going with four fighters in two elimination fights on the same night. The winners will face off in a deciding bout in early 2011. The fighters are very familiar with each other. Joseph Agbeko has defeated Vic Darchinyan before. Agbeko’s first round bout will be against a man who defeated him in a Fight of the Year candidate, Yonnhy Perez. Young Abner Mares fought Perez to a disputed draw, and faces hard-puncher Vic Darchinyan in his first round bout.

The night promises to be explosive, and right now I’m hard-pressed to make any predictions. My personal tournament favorite is Vic Darchinyan, but I know he is going to have his hands full with Mares.

Next up for Showtime is a cruiserweight tournament, which is scheduled to debut early next year.

  1. These ‘Tournaments’ are getting popular, Weve been having A Prizefighter competition over here for ages, which is A one night event run by Barry Hearns, its proven so popular Frank Warren is going to do A big one which Im really looking forward to, they are gonna get more popular over time and become an even bigger theme for boxing… I guess its the way boxing is going
