Body of Bob Arum’s Son Found, Mayweather Sends Condolences

Arum's former fighter Floyd Mayweather sent sympathies to the Arum family during this difficult time. Despite their contentious split in 2006, Mayweather had nothing but kind words following the tragedy that's hit the Arum family. "God bless to Bob Arum and his whole family, because I heard that Bob Arum's son had a bad accident," he said. "Love to the whole Arum family."

After days of searching in the Seattle area, authorities have confirmed the remains of John Arum at the 7,700 mark of the 8,500 feet Stone King Mountain.

John  Arum, 49, was an environmental and tribal law attorney. Although he followed his father’s footsteps into law, John Arum also held a passion for hiking and mountain climbing. The younger Arum had made a personal goal to conquer the top levels of the 100 highest mountains in Washington State.

Arum’s death appears to be the result of 300 foot fall. Arum had climbed the mountain before, but park representatives advised that the area is steep and can be hazardous whether going up or coming down. Those conditions are making the recovery of John Arum’s body difficult.

“It’s a very steep location and unstable with loose rock,” explained Kerry Oldon, park public information officer, to ESPN. “It’s an area where we can’t rappel down to it or climb up to it. We are working on a recovery plan and reaching out to see if we can get some help to bring his body back to his family.”

Arum’s family reported him missing on Tuesday (August 31). Bob Arum had just finished the first promotional tour stop for his controversial pairing of Manny Pacquiao and against polarizing former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito. At the press conference, Arum passionately defended Margarito on legal grounds and painted his return to the ring as a triumph of America’s legal system. Margarito had previously been suspended in 2009 for attempting to use illegal hand wraps against Shane Mosley. Margarito has placed blame with his trainer and steadfastly denied any knowledge of the crime.

Arum’s former fighter Floyd Mayweather sent sympathies to the Arum family during this difficult time. Despite their contentious split in 2006, Mayweather had nothing but kind words following the tragedy that’s hit the Arum family.

At press time, there is no word how long Bob Arum will be away from the Pacquiao-Margarito promotion leading up to the November 13 fight date.
