Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe is refuting statements from Bob Arum that any Mayweather or Pacquiao negotiations have taken place.
In a terse statement issued today (July 19), Ellerbe emphatically denied previous Arum statements that he had been negotiating the fight Mayweather’s other advisor, Al Haymon, and HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg.
“Here are the facts. Al Haymon, Richard Schaefer, and myself speak to each other on a regular basis and the truth is no negotiations have ever taken place nor was there ever a deal agreed upon by Team Mayweather or Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao on November 13,” Ellerbe said.
On Friday (July 16), Arum claimed that negotiations have been ongoing between himself, Haymon, and Greenburg for the past several weeks. In addition, Arum explained that he was forced to look at other options due to Mayweather not committing to the November 13 date.
Mayweather started his career with Arum’s Top Rank in 1996. The pair had a contentious falling out in 2006. Since then, Arum has derided Mayweather for his defensive-first style, and claimed that he’s avoided welterweight showdowns with other Top Rank fighters such Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, and Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather has an ongoing lawsuit against Arum over money reportedly still owed to him from the Zab Judah fight. Factoring in their past history, Ellerbe believes the culpability for the recent media and public confusion should be placed with Bob Arum.
“Either Ross Greenburg or Bob Arum is not telling the truth, but history tells us who is lying,” Ellerbe concluded.
At press time, Bob Arum has not responded to Ellerbe’s allegations. Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to face a still undetermined opponent on November 13.
