[Trailer] Love Hurts: ‘Together’ Blends Romance, Body Horror, and Brutal Honesty

What if love didn’t just change you emotionally, but physically?

Dave Franco and Alison Brie bring their real-life relationship into the fire in Together, a mind-bending horror drama that asks: what if love didn’t just change you emotionally, but physically? Set in the eerie quiet of the Australian countryside, the film follows Tim and Millie, a couple trying to reset their lives and relationship. But when a strange cave, a sip of cursed water, and one very bad night lead to their bodies literally fusing together, their issues go from awkward to apocalyptic.

Director Michael Shanks takes the raw material of long-term commitment—co-dependency, resentment, the loss of individuality—and stretches it into some of the most disturbing visual metaphors you’ll ever see on screen. One minute they’re bickering over their future, the next they’re pulling their legs apart from a gluey flesh-web, slowly realizing that whatever infected them in that cave isn’t done yet.

Despite a modest budget and a tight 21-day shoot, Together feels like a monster. Brie and Franco’s off-screen bond aims to make the emotional unraveling hit even harder, especially when the horror ramps up to Cronenberg-level nastiness. Imagine The Fly with modern tech, emotional realism, and a wicked sense of humor.

Together hits theaters nationwide on July 30.
