After seven long years, Daredevil is back, this time under the Disney+ banner. While fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Matt Murdock, Daredevil: Born Again wastes no time in proving that this is a different beast from the Netflix series. And how does it accomplish this? With an explosive, jaw-dropping first two episodes that change everything we thought we knew about Hell’s Kitchen’s blind protector.
The transition from Netflix to Disney+ was always going to require a bold statement to differentiate this version of Daredevil from its predecessor. Within the first 15 minutes, we witness the heartbreaking and unexpected murder of Foggy Nelson at the hands of Bullseye, a moment that immediately sets the tone for a darker, more ruthless season.
One of the highlights of these first two episodes is the intense, no-holds-barred fight between Daredevil and Bullseye. Fans of the Netflix series will be pleased to see another iconic hallway fight sequence, this time showcasing Daredevil as an enraged brawler while Bullseye fights with deadly precision. Daredevil, filled with fury over Foggy’s death, abandons strategy in favor of brute force, while Bullseye methodically picks him apart with razor-sharp accuracy. By the end, Matt Murdock is left looking like a human pincushion, impaled by Bullseye’s signature throwing weapons.
The fight culminates in a potential character-defining moment—Daredevil, abandoning his code, hurls Bullseye off a building in an attempted execution. But Bullseye survives, setting up an ongoing internal battle for Matt. Has he crossed a line he can’t come back from? How will he reconcile his faith and his principles with the thirst for vengeance? And if the Punisher makes an appearance, will Matt be able to resist the pull toward a more violent form of justice?
Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin has rehabilitated his image enough to win the mayor’s seat. He gains traction with a city disaffected with crime and vigilante violence, despite Kingpin’s wife Vanessa controlling their criminal enterprises and laundering millions. But the ruthless Kingpin we know is just below the surface, evident by the sit-down conversation with Murdock where both calmly threaten each other with ruin should either abandon their civilian cover. The question becomes — who forces the other to blink first?
With the first two episodes establishing a brutal new tone, Daredevil: Born Again promises a season filled with intense moral conflicts, brutal fight sequences, and high-stakes storytelling. Will Matt Murdock regain control over his violent tendencies? What is Bullseye’s true purpose in this attack? And most importantly, how will Hell’s Kitchen react to the loss of one of its most beloved figures?
