Only a few days separate us from the anticipated season three premiere of MGM+’s FROM. I spoke with the show’s star, Harold Perrineau, on his character Boyd Stevens’s growing desperation and gave my Top 5 on what to look out for this season.
- If Boyd Loses His Humanity and Diplomacy with the Mounting Atrocities
There’s only so much one man can take. Boyd Stevens has been taking two steps forward and three back as the leader of the trapped townspeople. Killing the Smiley Night Creature was supposed to be a turning point. Instead, it lead to more death, Tabitha’s disappearance to the real world, and more town unrest. We’ve seen Boyd have moments of frustration before, but the heightened stakes make this writer believe our protagonist is prone to becoming a more dictatorial and ruthless leader to match the Night Creatures’s attacks.
Harold Perrineau weighed in on my theory.
2. Jade Finding Answers
Through two seasons, Jade (David Alpay) has functioned doubly as the comic relief and a potential conduit to unlocking the town’s shrouded history. His visions have yielded some of the show’s most disturbing images, ranging from mutilated children to zombie-like Civil War soldiers. But what does it all mean? Jade’s been gradually connecting dots and it’s time for this character to hit the jackpot with a show-altering revelation.
3. Will Donna Betray Boyd?
Don’t be so quick to dismiss this seemingly wild take. When FROM debuted, these two were so much at odds that Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) had her own separate society with Colony House. As the Night Creature attacks mounted, Donna’s animosity towards Boyd softened and last season she functioned more as a second-in-command to Boyd’s leadership. But if Boyd becomes a more ruthless leader and dismissive of her concerns, could Donna enact a coup strengthened by her loyal Colony House followers?
Keep an eye on Donna’s mental state as season three progresses.
4. Tabitha Finding Answers and Survivors
As the only character to make it out, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) is the best hope to send for help. She’ll be shunned as mentally disturbed if she dares to reveal the town’s horrors to strangers. Therefore, her best case is somehow locating survivors or the family members of those trapped and brainstorming a “rescue team” to re-enter “FROMville.”
So, who does she find? Considering she was holding Victor’s lunchbox when tossed from the tower, it has to be someone from his family.
5. Someone Will Turn Into a Night Creature
The prevailing Night Creature theory is they’re former townspeople who fell victim to some type of experiment or demonic corruption. The latter could result from the immense mental stress put on their human prey night after night. We’ve seen what that did to Boyd’s late wife and Sara. And the most vulnerable candidate we may see in season three is Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori).
There’s been nothing joyous about Fatima’s pregnancy since she constantly worries about the child’s health in this environment. From the trailer, those fears appear warranted as Fatima is losing teeth and looking pale. The Night Creatures were shocked at Smiley’s death but never spoke on it again. Maybe their big revenge is converting a beloved community member and destroying their greatest hope for the future — new life.
FROM season three makes its debut Sunday, September 22 on MGM+. The episodes air online at midnight EST and Sunday night at 9 p.m. EST. BeatsBoxingMayhem will review every episode on the official BeatsBoxingMayhem YouTube page.
