Nearly 20 years after filing bankruptcy, MC Hammer must make another payout after an appeals court ruled he still owes $800,000 in back taxes.

Hammer, real name Stanley Kirk Burrell, filed for Chapter 13 protection in 1996 for restructure an estimated debt of $13 million. He challenged the recent California ruling on the grounds the Chapter 13 had been paid in full.

“To come back after the fact and assert claims after millions of dollars have been paid out by creditors from which these claims have been paid in full, is the misconduct the USA committed,” said Hammer in a statement.

The IRS originally sued Hammer for the unpaid taxes in 2012. Their suit alleged his bankruptcy only covered taxes 1993-1995, which totaled $1,517,450.92. The $800,000 bill was for taxes totaled in 1996 and 1997.
