VERONA, NY — The Money Team is all set to go for tonight’s ShoBox headlined by J’Leon Love vs. Vladine Biosse and Badou Jack facing off against Derek Edwards. The opening TV bout will be Chris Pearson facing veteran Lanardo Tyner. Let’s break down what to expect from this evening’s fisticuffs.
LOVE (16-0, 9 KOs): 168 LBS.
BIOSSE (15-2-2, 7 KOs): 169 lbs
PREDICTION: Although both fighters started their careers roughly around the same time, Love made a significant jump in competition over the last year, facing the likes of Derrick Findley, Gabriel Rosado and Lajaun Simon. The most notable name on Biosse’s resume is a young Denis Grachev, who KO’d him in four rounds. Last year, he also suffered an 8th round TKO at the hands of unheralded Marcus Upshaw. Expect Love to do the same, but in quicker fashion, as Edwards is a step down for his recent competiton. LOVE TKO4
JACK (16-0-1, 11 KOs): 168 LBS
EDWARDS (26-3-1, 13 KOs): 168 LBS
PREDICTION: I got to see Jack live last September, and I was impressed with him in his draw against Marco Antonio Periban. It was a give and take fight that most young guys sorely need as a reality check to not get complacent by racking up easy KOs. In Derek Edwards, he’s facing a 34-year-old coming off a ninth round stoppage defeat to Matt Korobov. Before that, he could only manage a draw against an Anthony Hanshaw well past his expiration date.
I would be surprised to see this one go past a few rounds. JACK TKO3
PEARSON (13-0, 10 KOs): 156 LBS
TYNER (31-8-2, 20 KOs): 154 LBS
PREDICTION: If there is any chance for an upset on this card, this is it. Tyner talents are limited, but he’s a tough guy that’s never been stopped. He’ll test Pearson’s power and focus by taking him into later rounds. With that said, Tyner has lost pretty much every time he’s stepped up. In recent years, he’s dropped decisions to Dierry Jean, Jessie Vargas and Wale Omotoso. Tyner will rough him up in spots, but the 23-year-old Pearson will outland him and take this one via a unanimous decision.
