Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya will miss the biggest pay-per-view event in his company’s history to undergo drug rehab treatment.

De La Hoya, who’s had well documented past issues with cocaine abuse, made the announcement today via an official statement asking for privacy and reaffirming his support for Golden Boy fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who faces Floyd Mayweather this Saturday in what may become the highest grossing pay-per-view fight in history.

Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend. His is the ring and mine in treatment.

I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility.

I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and longterm recovery from my disease must come first.

Thank you for your understanding. I ask for your support and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family.

At press time, fighters from the card are expected to make their Las Vegas “grand arrivals” later today.
