Amir Khan Comeback Against Carlos Molina Headed to Showtime

Amir Khan's comeback fight against Carlos Molina is headed to Showtime.

Amir Khan’s comeback fight against lightweight Carlos Molina has found a home as the December 15 main event for Showtime Championship Boxing.

The card, which will take place from the Los Angeles Sports Arena, will also feature a weekend fanfest including music artists, meet and greets, autograph signings and memorbillia.

The fight will be Khan’s first in-ring appearance since suffering a TKO loss to Danny Garcia in July and removing Freddie Roach, his trainer of the last five years, for Virgil Hunter.

“I am looking forward to getting back in the ring and continuing my career,” said Khan in a statement.  “I believe in myself and my abilities. With each fight I learn what I am capable of doing and these opportunities afford the chance to better myself and continue to comeback stronger than before. I fight for all of the fans that continue to support me regardless of outcome and I will not be satisfied until I give them what they want. I want to be a world champion again and that is what the goal is starting with this fight against Molina.”

The event will be Showtime’s last boxing card of 2012. At press time, no other fights have been confirmed.

It’ll be interesting to see if Khan can fill up the 15,000 seat Los Angeles Sports Arena. Golden Boy definitely has the right idea with the fanfest attraction. Get a solid fight or two with some LA-based fighters and you can have a decent card to close out 2012. Khan’s been taking a little grief regarding the opponent. However, considering he’s enlisted a new trainer and is coming off a knockout loss, it’s to be expected.
