Andre Ward may be in his physical prime as a fighter, but that hasn’t prevented the unified WBA and WBC super middleweight champion from creating professional goals outside the ring. Following in the footsteps of the likes of George Foreman, Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver, Ward has already taken the early steps to adding broadcaster/commentator to his resume. In his last blog entry before Saturday night’s big fight against Chad Dawson, Ward gives a brief synopsis of progress with this goal.
Do you have any post-fighting career plans or aspirations? What do you like to do when you are not training for a fight?
I’m really passionate about broadcasting, not only after my boxing career, but also now as an active fighter. I’ve gotten the opportunity to do a lot of commentary work over the past few years, calling fights on a several different networks and it’s something that I take very seriously. I recently did an internship at Comcast in San Francisco, and it really helped to give me the full scope of the field, even things as small as microphone placement. The ministry is also something that I want to explore following my career in the ring.
When I’m not training for a fight, I just love to spend time with my family and catch up on everything I missed while I was away in training camp and preparing a fight.
Ward vs. Dawson takes place Saturday, Sept. 8 live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.
