[VIDEO] Torae – “That Raw” [Prod. By Pete Rock]

Lyricism is already ostracized in mainstream Hip-Hop, but what if it was flat-out illegal?

Lyricism is already ostracized in mainstream Hip-Hop, but what if it was flat-out illegal? That’s the creative angle Torae utilizes with his video for “That Raw,” produced by Pete Rock. Directed by Brian Robinson, the video has three separate vignettes showing a dystopian future of the culture. The first has Torae selling his lyrics like a hustler on the corner complete with fortune cookie-like paper slips of his rhymes. The second clip finds our protagonist working out of warehouse akin to the Carter complex from New Jack City. The final scene won’t be spoiled here.

“That Raw” is found on Toare’s debut album For the Record in physical and digital formats. The re-released double-vinyl version includes a new 9th Wonder-produced track entitled “Only Way.”
