Kendrick Lamar ft. Dr. Dre “The Recipe”

The jump from internet sensation to mainstream star is littered with pitfalls and potential missed opportunities. To date, Kendrick Lamar's transition has been without incident. Even before officially announcing his major deal with Interscope/Aftermath, he got notable placements on mainstream albums from artists like Game and Drake. Now it's his own turn to step into the spotlight, and Lamar does it with a very accessible, smooth track courtesy of Scoop DeVille entitled "The Recipe."

The jump from internet sensation to mainstream star is littered with pitfalls and  potential missed opportunities. To date, Kendrick Lamar’s transition has been without incident. Even before officially announcing his major deal with Interscope/Aftermath, he got notable placements on mainstream albums from artists like Game and Drake. Now it’s his own turn to step into the spotlight, and Lamar does it with a very accessible, smooth track courtesy of Scoop DeVille entitled “The Recipe.”

The light background cooing helps stick the songs melody in your mind and it’s not surprising if you end up humming it by the track’s mid-point. The speedy verses are flow-driven and obvious from their similarities that Lamar penned Dre’s part. Detox is nowhere in sight but with Lamar’s album in the wings, that can be forgiven.

“The Recipe” hits iTunes tonight for purchase.
