Forget just female emcees, Da Brat sounds like she’s trying to put everyone on notice. Newly released from a prolonged prison sentence, Hip-Hop’s first female platinum emcee attacks the mic with vigor with a show-stealing spot on the So So Def remix of Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now.” Brat was treading water artistically before her incarceration. But now her energy is vibrant and she sounds inspired to re-establish herself in Hip-Hop. Longtime Hip-Hop fans already know Da Brat can spit (see “Lyrical Molestation”). We’ll see if she can buck the trend of most 90’s artists and fit into today’s scene. $100 bucks says she wrote JD’s verse, too.
