Usually, a project’s first single can be a good indicator of an album’s direction. If that’s the case regarding Jill Scott’s upcoming The Light of the Sun album, then “Shame” might be cause for some concern. Scott’s voice sounds great, but the radio-friendly track, while cool as background music, is ultimately forgettable. But Jill Scott isn’t your everyday artist. Her last LP, Words and Sounds Vol. 3, was a great project that sounded completely different from its boisterous first single, “Hate On Me.” To a lesser extent, that truth was also evident with Beautifully Human and its “Golden” single. Scott has never disappointed with her albums and I don’t expect her to start now.
