With all the fights and shocking upsets over the weekend, prospect Jesse Vargas’ fight against Vivian Harris went under the radar. Make no mistake, Harris is done as a fighter. He held and covered up the entire round while Vargas rained down hooks around his guard. Harris went back to the corner with a bloody nose and immediately told his team he had enough. His head trainer incredulously asked “Are you serious?” as Harris refused to be attended to. Several more pleas to fight on from his team went on deaf ears as Harris repeatedly said “that’s it.”
Fights like this will do nothing for Vargas’ development. His handlers should look for much more durable veterans. As for Harris, this should be the last time we see him in the ring. He clearly no longer has the will to compete, and should not embarrass himself or disrespect the sport any further.
